I've done yearly favorites for the past couple of years but for 2016 I thought I'd try something different and share with a list of beauty products that disappointed me the most. I know these type of lists can be a bit controversial as everyone has a different taste but since I personally really enjoy reading these kind of posts, I will give it a try this year. To clarify, some of the items on this list are straight-up horrible while some are more dissapointing then they are downright bad. To see what made this list, click......
Skincare:
1. Pika Turu Kaoge Yogore Skin Clear Pack: Gloopy, messy, and impossible to spread, this peel-off mask literally brought tears to my eyes as I tried to remove it off of my face. What's worse is that with all that work, the mask barely removed any blackheads, making it a huge fail on so many levels.
2. Kat Burki Vitamin C Nourishing Cleansing Balm: For a $94 cleansing balm, I was expecting some magical melt-your-makeup goodness. Unfortunately, this thing was a huge mess. Formulated with a plethora of oils (and only oils), the balm clung to the skin like no tomorrow, making it impossible to completely remove from the face.
3. Lush Rub Rub Rub Shower Scrub Bar: If you want a body scrub that literally leaves behind bloody and red scratch marks, then this is the product for you. I love Lush but they really missed the mark (big times) with this one.
Hair Products:
1. Drybar Mudslide Nourishing Hair Mask: Nicely packaged and pleasantly scented, this hair mask left my hair weirdly tangly. The formulation seems to contain some ingredients that make the individual hair strands stick to each other and as someone who enjoys running my hands through my hair, this mask made it very difficult to do so.
2. Revlon One-Step Ionic Hair Dryer and Styler: A clunky and inefficient hair dryer shaped like a giant hairbrush, this Revlon dryer was innovative but poorly executed. It doesn't really dry well because its fan is weak, and because it's so heavy aunwieldydly, it was even difficult to use it to style damp-dry hair.
Palettes:
1. Chanel "268 Candeur et Experience" Les 4 Ombres Palette: With four beautiful colors that screams fall, the formulation for this Chanel palette was very lackluster. They are dry, chalky, and barely pigmented.
2. Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Skin Twinkle Lighting Palette: Despite having two nice highlighter shades, this palette held one beige highlight (middle shade) that literally felt like a piece of brick. I dug my brush so hard into the powder and still couldn't pick up anything. I actually wasn't able to photograph any swatches because I couldn't get enough color to show up on my skin.
3. Chanel La Palette Sourcils de Chanel Brow Powder Duo in "40 Naturel": When Chanel is good it is so good and when it's bad.... well, that's when you get this brow powder duo. With a formulation so hard and chalky, the two powders in this palette might as well been replaced by two plastic toy inserts. I honestly wouldn't even be able to tell the difference.
Lipsticks:
1. Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Drench Lip Splash Lipstick: Three out of four shades broke right out of the bullet upon first use. Enough said?
2. Dior Fall 2016 Rouge Dior Lipstick in "Montaigne Matte" & "Superstitious Matte": I commend Dior for stepping out of its usual box with this gray and purple lipstick but the formulation was very dissapointing. Chalky, patchy, and utterly unusable, these daring creations definitely missed the mark.
3. Urban Decay Vice Lipstick Vintage Capsule Collection: As Urban Decay classics re-released in an updated packaging, these lipsticks offer up such a unique color selection. Unfortunately, most of the shades are so incredibly sheer, making me believe that the forsty lip trend was left behind in the 90s for a good reason.
Foundations:
1. Make Up For EverWater Blend Foundation: I know this foundation has some strong supporters but I honestly don't understand the point of a watered-down formulation. With an 80% water content, this foundation provided no coverage. Unless you have a near-perfect complexion, this foundation really won't do anything for the skin.
2. Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation: With a natural and medium-high coverage, this foundation made me fall in love until it creased and streaked (no joke) on my T-zone and cheeks.
Nails:
OPI Fall 2016 Washinton DC Collection: Now this collection wasn't a complete miss because there were a couple of nice shades. However, the majority of these beautiful fall colors were immensely disappointing. What should have been rich and smooth two-coaters all turned out to be weirdly sheer. I don't know what OPI is trying out but I do not like it.
