For Spring 2017, Dior is adding six brand new Rouge Dior Matte Lipsticks ($43 CAD each) to its ever-growing Rouge Dior family and today I have swatches and reviews of three unique shades to share with you. Gray and taupe lipsticks anyone? To read on, click.......
Packaging:
The Rouge Dior Matte Lipstick comes in a simple black and silver case with the Christian Dior logo monogrammed on the top of the cap. The inside of the cap is printed red for a bit of extra glamor while the actual lipstick bullet is nicely tapered with the word "Dior" etched across its width.
Formulation:
I've tried a couple of Rouge Dior Matte shades last Fall and found the formulation to be extremely disappointing. However, this new batch of matte lipsticks from Dior is comparatively better. Formulation varies greatly between the shades so read on below for a breakdown of the three colors I have here.
951 Absolute: The best out of the three, this is a warm fall red with a very pigmented and creamy formulation. I would not consider this a matte finish but rather a satin finish at best. Nevertheless, this is a very sophisticated bright brick red that can be quite flattering on warmer skin tones.
810 Distinct: An unconventional taupe brown, Distinct is smooth and creamy. Unfortunately, the pigmentation is not great. As a result, it wears a bit patchy. Perhaps with the appropriate lip liner the coverage problem will be solved but I personally can't see myself ever wearing a color like this on my lips. Additionally, this is also more creamy than matte in finish.
502 Radical: Oh Dior! What is it with you and gray lipsticks? After the whole Montaigne Matte debacle, Dior is back at it again with another gray lipstick. Fortunately the formulation is a lot better than last time and the shade is slightly on the cooler side as well. With that said, the coverage is still not perfect so unless you have some creative lip art ideas in mind, this shade is probably best left to the SFX makeup pros.
