I dine out quite a bit since my boyfriend
dabbles in food blogging, so for my birthday celebration last month I visited one of my favorite restaurants in Vancouver for some hearty birthday brunch. Located on Main Street between 23rd and 24th,
Nomad offers up one amazing slow-cooked pork ciabatta sandwich. This thing is so good that the first time my boyfriend tried it, he teared up out of pure bliss. So today I am taking a short break from the holiday makeup reviews to dedicate a whole blog post on Nomad's
Slow Cooked Pork and Egg on Ciabatta.......
With a spacious and comfortable interior lit by ceiling-high windows and skylights, Nomad is a beautiful restaurant. It teeters between modern and rustic, but not treading too deep into the uber hipster arena. None of that really matters, though, because this place could be a shabby dive bar and I would still visit regularly to order their Slow Cooked Pork and Egg on Ciabatta.
Where do I even start with this amazing sandwich? Served on a warm toasted ciabatta bun generously spread with housemade bourbon onion aioli, the sandwich has a hefty layer of slow-cooked pork shreds that's melt-in-your-mouth tender. The pork is perfectly seasoned as well and I love that it's not at all sweet like your typical pulled pork sandwich. Layered atop the meat is a sunny-side up egg and perfectly sauteed kale leaves, as if this sandwich needed any more oomph!

I don't want to go overboard with this rave-view but this is honestly the best sandwich I've ever had and you have to try it at least once (or a hundred times)! With the sandwich, you also get the Nomad hash brown, which is pretty much thinly shredded potatoes deep fried to a crisp. It's not my favorite thing because I like my potatoes a bit meatier but nothing can take away from this glorious dish.
On the same day my boyfriend also surprised me with some pastries from
Beaucoup Bakery's holiday chestnut menu and the Chestnut Panettone Feuilletée was the perfect finish to the perfect brunch.
