A passion project of Kat Von D that has been seven years in the making, the Alchemist Holographic Palette ($42 CAD) will be hitting the shelves later this month. Inspired by the magical world of alchemy, this multi-use palette contains four prismatic shades that can be dusted over the lids, the cheeks, or even the lips! Packaging:
Kat Von D's packaging is always super edgy and badass but the Alchemist Holographic Palette takes it to the next level with a triangular cardboard palette. The outside of the palette has a cool holographic sheen and the lid actually bears an etching designed personally by Kat Von D. You get four powders in total and they are 1.53g each. I personally would have still preferred a rectangular or square palette for easier storage but the overall design is definitely unique!
Formulation:
The transformative powders in this palette can be applied as highlighters, eyeshadows, or even lipstick toppers. All four shades are pretty consistent in terms of formulation; they are smooth, creamy, and very nicely pigmented despite being mostly shimmers. They all have an iridescent, glitter-less sheen and as you can see from my swatches below, the powders take on a whole new life when worn over a darker base (I used a simple black gel liner). The powders aren't technically holographic but they certainly are mesmerizing. See below for a breakdown of the shades but overall I really like this palette! Although it may not be super practical for someone who is a makeup novice, it does allow for some gorgeous creations from makeup artists or daring beauty mavens! Additionally, the pink and the purple shades can definitely work as highlighters as well.
{green} emerald: This is a soft green shimmer and in my opinion the least interesting shade out of the bunch because it doesn't have as much of a transformative quality as compared to the other shades.
{ultra-violet} amethyst: A blue-lavender shimmer, this shade definitely has the strongest duo chrome effect out of the bunch.
{blue}saphyre: Saphyre is a very pretty teal. Over just bare skin or a light base, it appears the most colorless but the teal truly shines through when the powder is applied over a dark base.
{pink} opal: This is a gorgeous soft pink with just a tiny hint of champagne gold. Out of all four, this is the most versatile shade. I can easily see it being used as a shadow, a highlighter, or over lip colors for some extra dimensions.
Availability:
The Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Palette will be available late December at Sephora.
