For Holiday 2016, NARS has teamed up with fashion photographer Sarah Moon for a dreamy and surreal color collection. Inspired by the 1920's epic sci-fi Metropolis, the
NARS Sarah Moon Collection features quite a wide array of palettes and individual pieces. Today I have the eye and cheek palette, lipsticks, and nail polishes to share with you. To see some swatches, click.......
NARS Sarah Moon | Give In Take Dual Intensity Eye & Cheek Palette ($85 CAD):
This is a Sephora-exclusive eye and cheek palette housed in the most exquisite matte black compact. The lid has a mysterious vintage yet futuristic photograph covered with a frosty matte acrylic inlay. Inside you get six eyeshadows each weighing at 2g and three cheek products each weighing at 3.5g. I am extremely impressed with the packaging; the palette looks so artistic and well-made that I wouldn't think twice if I saw this hanging up on a wall.
For the shadows you get a satin cream khaki, a satin elephant gray, a satin steel gray with just a hint of dark blue, a matte cream-beige, a matte medium taupe, and a matte dark brown. For the cheek colors, there is a beautiful pearlescent shimmery highlight, a soft peach-brown satin-shimmer, and a satin baby pink. I've not used a lot of NARS shadows or cheek colors before but I am immensely impressed with every single shade in this palette. The shadows are all nicely pigmented with a very silky and smooth texture while the blushes and the highlighter are very refined. They all have a beautiful and natural sheen and there are no chunky or heavy glitters.
NARS Sarah Moon | Moon Matte Lipsticks ($36 CAD):
Packaged in a slim matte tube, the Moon Matte Lipsticks are available in four different shades. The pigmentation is definitely intense and the finish is 100% matte. However, the application is a bit troublesome as the texture is quite dry, making it difficult to apply smooth strokes. At first I applied straight from the tube and ended up getting a lot of jagged edges and uneven patches but when I went in with a lip brush, the result was a lot better.
So applying these with a brush and sticking to a thin layer is the way to go. The wear is very impressive but the lipstick does feel drying. Overall, though, I still really like these because it's honestly hard to find ultra-pigmented matte lipsticks that are truly matte and these definitely live up to their name.
Indecent Proposal: This a nude rose-brown neutral. The pigmentation is fantastic despite it being the lightest shade of the bunch. However, the color is not very flattering on my skin tone.
Fearless Red: My favorite out of the four, Fearless Red is an easy-to-wear brick-red that's super appropriate for fall.
Rouge Improbable: This is a bright red with a very nice and pigmented formulation.
Rouge Indescret: A deep ruby red, Rouge Indescret is very classy and sophisticated. Again, the pigmentation is very good. There is a tiny bit of patchiness but with a careful application using a lip brush, it is possible to obtain a smoother and more even coverage.
NARS Sarah Moon Nail Polish ($26 CAD):
Included in this beautiful collection are of course a trio of red nail colors. Here I have
La Dame en Noir, a dark burgundy red. The formulation is actually surprisingly sheer, I needed three coats for the swatches below. Reds like this are usually very pigmented and rich so I was very disappointed with La Dame en Noir.
Last but not least we have a bright tomato red called
Flonflons. Unlike La Dame en Noir, this polish is incredibly creamy and pigmented. I used two coats for the swatches below but you can technically get away with just one.
