After the success of the innovative
Grandiose Mascara,
Lancome is releasing a revolutionary liquid eyeliner with a bendable wand that promises an easier application. With a matte and long-wearing formulation, the
Grandiose Bendable Eyeliner ($40 CAD) is definitely first of its kind. To see some swatches and my review of the design, click.......
Packaging:
The Lancome Grandiose Bendable Eyeliner comes in an elongated teardrop-shaped packaging. The handle features a beautiful ombre rose print but the key feature is that it's bendable. A little clicky ball joint near the base allows you to bend the handle into two different 35-degree positions. I personally think it's a neat idea, although I do have to admit that I've gotten quite accustomed to the traditional eyeliner handle. With that said, I did notice that the bendable handle makes it easier to do my left eye (I'm right handed). I like to hold the base of the bent portion when lining my left eye, the bent angle gives me more control and a better grip.
Additionally, the eyeliner has a very nice and flexible felt-tip. I am usually not a fan of felt-tip applicators but this one is super easy to work with. It's almost a bit sponge-like, so it's not abrasive on the lids but also not too flimsy to draw precise lines.
Formulation:
The Grandiose liner features a very dark black formulation. The ink dries extremely quickly and it sets to a very matte finish, which I much prefer over a shiny black finish. The benefit of the quick-drying formulation is that it won't smudge or transfer while you wait for it to dry. However, I have trouble getting an even coating of the product on the felt-tip, perhaps due to the quick-drying formulation.
As a result, I was getting a bit of tugging and jagged edges. It was avoidable with some extra care but it sure made the process more challenging. With that said, the longevity is great! The liner gets slightly dry and crusty after several hours but it was almost completely water and smudge proof, aside from the tiniest bit of flaking. Overall, this wasn't the perfect liquid eyeliner. However, it has some great features that would make me want to use it on a regular basis.
