For Fall 2016,
Sephora has partnered up with fashion designer
Mara Hoffman for a beautiful collection. Packaged in stunning prints and featuring an array of natural ingredients such as cocoa oil and shea butter, the collection is online and in stores now. To read the first part of my review, click.......
Sephora Mara Hoffman Kaleidescape Tinted Lip Balm ($24 CAD):
Packaged in the most adorable cardboard-covered lipstick tube, the Tinted Lip Balm in "
Wilderberry" is formulated with coconut oil, shea butter, apple extract, and apricot extract. The color is a super sheer rosy plum; strangely, the formulation has a bit of a waxy, old-school lipstick smell.
The bigger problem, though, was how soft the product is. I know it's summer right now, but the temperature in my room is around a comfortable 21 celsius. Nevertheless, the lipstick smooshed right into its barrel when I first tried to put it on. I hope that was mine was just a manufacturing anomaly because this is such a nice and easy-to-wear tinted balm. The texture is super slick and hydrating without being greasy or heavy.
Sephora Mara Hoffman Kaleidescape Lipgloss Set ($35 CAD):
This adorable set includes five different lipglosses. Each color comes in a decently-sized tube and the cap is covered in a pretty printed-cardboard. The glosses are formulated with castor oil, sunflower seed oil, jojoba butter, and extracts of camellia, apricot, and apple. The formulation is very creamy and hydrating, but not sticky or heavy.
Included are a shimmery terra-cotta coral, a pale pink, a soft rose, a baby coral, and a nude peach. All the colors are pretty sheer, so they will only provide a sheer wash of color.
Sephora Mara Hoffman Kaleidescape Cheek Trio ($35 CAD):
The most interesting item out of the bunch is this set of cream cheek colors. Also formulated with rich coconut oil, castor oil, cocoa butter, and extracts of apple and apricot, the cheek sticks come in short and chubby cardboard-covered twist-up tubes.
I find the formulation to be a bit too "balmy" for the face; these can look greasy if you have oily skin. "Lunar" is a pretty white shimmer, "Earthquake" is a shimmery tan, and "Sunrise" is a pretty coral shimmer. Both "Lunar" and "Earthquake" are quite pigmented but "Sunrise" is very surprisingly sheer.
A multi-purpose moisturizing balm made with just shea, jojoba, coconut oil, lavender oil, sunflower oil, and honey, the Natural Oil Balm comes in a gorgeous glass jar with a wooden lid.
The formulation smells amazing (thanks to the lavender). I personally find that it works best as a body balm as the texture could be a bit greasy for the face. Although the packaging is lovely, it's not super function because the balm is solid, making it a bit messy to have to dig my fingers into the jar in attempt to melt and retrieve some product.
Sephora Mara Hoffman Kaleidescape Compact Mirror ($20 CAD):
This is a beautiful compact mirror about the size of a small eyeshadow quad. The outside is covered in a coated-cotton water-resistant pattern and inside are two large mirrors, with one being magnified. The design is super stunning-very tribal boho-chic. The compact has a nice weight to it; it's not great if you are traveling light but the weight adds a luxury feel.
