If you follow beauty news, you must have heard about the addition of the new makeup and skincare range at H&M. With a full line of beauty, hair, skincare, and fragrance products, the new
H&M Beauty Department promises quality and value with most products priced at $12.99 CAD or lower. Today I have swatches and a review of the
Smoky Nudes Eyeshadow Palette ($12.99 CAD) to share with you, to read all about it, click.......
Packaging:
The Smoky Nudes palette comes in a sleek and simple black and cream plastic compact. The design is rectangular and quite thin, perfect for travelling. The inside has a large mirror and the overall quality of the palette is pretty impressive, given that it's only $12.99. If the H&M logo was hidden, I would have easily guessed that this was a palette from a luxury brand.
Formulation:
Despite the beautiful packaging, the formulation of the shadows is pretty disappointing. The overall pigmentation is sheer, but that is not the biggest problem. The texture feels overly powdery, excessively talc-y, with not enough binding ingredients to make it smooth and buttery. I want to say that at least a couple of the shades are decent but the thin, powdery texture is just a no-no in my book, especially given how well-formulated drugstore brands' eyeshadows have gotten over the years.
Overall:
With such a beautiful and high-quality packaging, I was expecting an equally awesome formulation. However, all the shadows are extremely sheer and the texture is chalky and thin. With improved formulation, this palette could be pretty amazing, especially for the $12.99 CAD price point.
