Earlier this year I developed a love for a cute little cafe called Vivanty's near my work place that serves up unique and fresh salads and soups. So ever since then, I've been on the hunt for similar places in Vancouver that offer light and fresh meal options, and boy have I found a good one! Originating as a catering service for film crews and casts,
Truffles Fine Foods has recently opened up a cafe on Davie St. in Downtown Vancouver (and another location soon at the Anvil Center in New Westminster). I visited the place a while back and today I want to share with you some of the things I nommed.......
The inside of the cafe is warmly accented with cute decors and wall decals. There is even a condiments wall that lists all the names of the movies and actors Truffles has catered for over the years (so many things are filmed in Vancouver!).
For starters we tried the goat cheese beet salad with candied pecans. I love beets but I feel like this salad elevated beets to a whole new level. The tender juiciness of the subtly sweet beets combined with the sharp tanginess of the goat cheese and the sweet crunch of the pecans made for such a satisfying dish. I would definitely go for this if you love something light yet flavorful.

Next up we tried the turkey brie sandwich with cranberry and pistachio bread. The sandwhich was warm and fresh but it wasn't a standout dish. The cranberries on the bread added a nice sweetness, but the pistachio kind of lost its crunch and flavor.

Last but certainly not least was the chocolate mousse with cookie crumbles. First of all, how cute is it that this thing comes in a jar? The mouse was super light, airy, and melt-in-your-mouth yummy. I loved the combination of the cookie crunch and the rich but fluffy mousse. The only downside of this is that it will literally disappear within seconds and you are left wondering how you finished the whole thing without blinking an eye.

In addition to various gourmet sandwiches and fresh salads, Truffles also serves up a variety of pasta options and an array of dessert and drink choices (including JJ Bean Coffee). My mission next time is to try out the lasagna. I can already hear it calling my name. So overall, I think this is an awesome little cafe. Lunch here is going to cost a bit more than heading to the nearest pizza place, but I think it's well worth it!
