Have you ever tried a liquid blush before? I certainly haven't so I was very excited for the release of the
Stila Aqua Glow Watercolor Blushes ($34 CAD). Available in five shades, these water-based blushes promise to give the cheeks a natural watercolor flush. I gave the shade "Water Poppy" a try, to see some swatches and read about my thoughts on the formulation, click.......
Packaging:
The Aqua Glow Watercolor Blush comes in a pretty glass jar with a pale gold lid. The opening of the jar is covered with a mesh dispenser and the lid has a protrusion on its underside to help prevent the product from leaking. Stila advises shaking the jar well before each use and they recommend the application be done with a brush.
Formulation:
The water-based blush is very thin and runny. The formulation feels nice and cooling on the cheeks and the shade "Water Poppy" is a bright orange-red. The color has some subtle shimmers but they are barely visible. The pigmentation is pretty intense so a little goes a long way. I used my fingertips to apply, the color blends nicely but the wet formulation took a bit long to set. The blush gave a very natural glow-from-within look but I had a big problem with the wear. After no more than two hours, the color almost completely faded, which was surprising because I wasn't even touching or rubbing my cheeks that much.
Additionally, I'm not certain how the formulation works over foundation and powder as the liquid formulation isn't as versatile and blendable as powder.
Overall:
I think this is a very interesting cheek product. The liquid formulation is cooling and this shade is intense. The color blends nicely on bare skin but the wear is extremely short. Additionally, the application is a bit troublesome and time-consuming. I used my fingers so it was relatively quick, but I can't imagine using a brush to apply this on a daily basis.
