New for Summer 2015,
Urban Decay has added eight brand new shades to its revamped
Eyeshadow ($22 CAD) collection, ranging from mattes, shimmers, and even a few duo-chromes (hallelujah!). Today I have swatches for a few shades from the new additions, to see some photos and my thoughts on the formulation, click.......
Packaging:
The Urban Decay single eyeshadows come in sleek, round plastic compacts that are reminiscent of the old school Urban Decay subway token-inspired packaging. The shadows can be taken out of the compact by simply pressing on the back. They can be swapped or inserted into a customizable Urban Decay shadow palette. The tiny compact designs are detailed and exquisite, and the gunmetal finish looks so cool as well.
Formulation:
Riff: This is a warm light brown with subtle golden sparkles, the formulation is decent but because the color base is matte, the shadow feels a bit dry, but the pigmentation is nice.
Beware: This is a soft matte brown previously released in the Theodora Palette (for the Oz The Great and Powerful movie). As a standalone color, it's not that great because there is some patchiness. However, because the shadow is soft and creamy, it works well as a blending color.
Tonic: A gorgeous lilac/blue duo-chrome, this shade is creamy and pigmented. It was hard to capture the color shift on camera but the color is super electric and youthful.
Backfire: This is a rich eggplant burgundy shimmer. The shadow is buttery smooth but the pigmentation was just decent. I expected a bigger punch of color but it actually showed up a bit more subdued.
Overall:
Out of these four shades, there is a bit of variation in terms of color payoff and formulation. My personal favorite is Tonic because it's such a fun, electric summer shadow. Shades like Beware and Backfire in my opinion are not unique and special enough. They would be nice in a palette, but on their own, I'm not sure it's worth the investment.
