OPI Hawaii Collection for Spring 2015: Review and Swatches
Every year OPI releases a nail polish collection inspired by a travel destination and for Spring 2015 that destination is Hawaii. Filled with fresh and vibrant beach-ready shades, the OPI Hawaii Collection has 12 shades, ranging from simple cremes to pretty metallics and glitters. To see swatches of all 12 shades, click.......
Aloha from OPI
Let’s give a warm island hello to this bright creamy coral!
This is a vibrant coral red with an opaque formulation. The color reminds me a lot of The Coral of the Story from Nicole by OPI. I used two coats for my swatches.

Go with the Lava Flow
You can feel the heat shimmering off this golden red.
This is a subdued coral red filled with orange and gold shimmers. The formulation is fairly opaque but I felt the need to use three coats to really smooth things out.

Is Mai Tai Crooked?
Get it straight-this fruity orange crème is fabulous!
A pastel orange creme, the formulation is decent for the color; I used three coats.

Do You Take Lei Away?
On second thought, I can’t wait–I need this creamy nude now!
This is an ivory beige nude with a surprisingly good formulation. I needed only two coats for full coverage.

That’s Hula-rious!
This pastel mint green makes me dance with joy!
A very pale minty green, this also surprisingly has a great formula. Can you believe I only used two coats for the swatches below? I am so used to having trouble with pastels that I immediately steer clear of them but this shade has definitely turned me around!

Lost My Bikini In Molokini
With this reef-inspired purple, what’s one bikini more or less?
This is a pretty cool-tone purple. The formulation is nicely pigmented, a simple two-coater.

Hello Hawaii Ya?
In this gorgeous, dusky purple, I’m doing just fine.
This is a smoky dark lavender with a very pretty sheer formulation. I used a total of three coats and the finish was weirdly dull so I added a top coat to add some shine.

Just Lanai-ing Around
This dark, creamy mauve says "hang loose!" in style.
A beautiful dark mauve with very subtle pale silver shimmers, this one has an ok formulation. I had to use three coats for full coverage.

Suzi Shops & Island Hops
A light and happy pink that's the perfect traveling companion.
This is a simple baby pink creme. The formulation is too sheer for my liking. I had to use four coats for opacity and the finish was still uneven. I used a top coat to help level out the streaks.

This Color's Making Waves
This shimmery, lagoon blue has got heads turning.
One of my favorite shades from the collection, this is a beautiful blue shimmer with a purple duo-chrome effect sprinkled with a dash of yellow/orange shimmer specks. The formulation is decent, a bit sheer but three coats gave full coverage.

Pineapples Have Peelings Too!
The heart of the matter lies in this gold shimmer with colorful sparkle.
This is a frosty yellow filled with multi-colored hex glitter and mini glitters. I've seen many people voice their dislike for this shade and I have to agree. The pretty glitters get too muddled up by the semi-sheer yellow frost; the combination is not flattering. With that said though, the formulation is decent but a bit slow-drying. I used three coats for the swatches below.

My Gecko Does Tricks
Being bright and pearly green is just one of its talents.
Last but not least, this is a lime green frost with a pretty sheer formulation. I used three coats for the swatches below and the brush strokes are a bit too noticeable for my liking.

Overall:
I think the collection is more of a mixed bag. Firstly I wish there were more glitters, shimmers and metallics versus just cremes. Only four (or five if you count Just Lai-ing Around) non-cremes is a little fewer than I'd prefer. But overall my picks are This Color's Making Waves (shimmery blue), Go with the Lava Flow (shimmery red), Aloha from OPI (coral red), Do You Take Lei Away (Beige nude), and That's Hula-rious if you love mints. The only two I would say to steer away from is the pale pink and smoky purple; the formulation of those is just too sheer and streaky.
