I know it's not even November yet but beauty brands are cranking out holiday sets and palettes like elves at Santa's workshop so this review shall mark the many holiday reviews coming your way from The Happy Sloths. Avon's Makeup Studio Palette ($24.99) is a new holiday all-in-one makeup palette that includes everything you need to create an infinite number of looks. This simple and affordable palette includes 24 shadows, 12 lip glosses, 2 blushes and 2 bronzers. To see photos and swatches, click......

Packaging:
The Makeup Studio Palette comes in festive and pretty box (perfect for gifting). The palette itself is made of black plastic (15 x 17 cm, comparable to the size of an iPad). The design is quite sleek for the amount of content it holds and the lid has very pretty silver designs.
The shadows are housed on the bottom "shelf" while the blushes, bronzers, and lip glosses are on the top shelf, which is essentially attached to the underside of the lid that also comes with a large mirror. When you open the palette, the lip gloss/blush shelf sort of extends and then collapses on top of the shadow shelf.
The palette includes some brushes as well but I never find those very useful because the quality just isn't there.

Eyeshadows:
With a total of 24 shades, you definitely have a wide selection. There are a lot of shimmers, metallics, and a handful of mattes. Each shadow is about the size of a penny. I like applying my shadows with my fingertip so it was a bit tricky to get a good amount of product what with my nails being quite long. In terms of formulation, there are some variation (I swatched three shades below). The metallic was pigmented and buttery but the mattes were a bit patchy and dry.
Blushes/Bronzers:
Both blushes have a matte finish which I appreciate because I am all for matte cheeks. One is a very light baby pink and the other is a darker dusty pink. The formulation for both are superb-soft, creamy, and pigmented.
The bronzers, on the other hand, have a subtle shimmer which I don't mind because I am not big on bronzers anyhow but the formulation of these are equally pigmented and soft. I think most people would have preferred some matte bronzers so they can use them for contouring but given the good formulation I think bronzer users would still appreciate them.
Lip Glosses:
I don't like lip products in pan forms and I especially dislike it when they are in the same palette as powder products. Hence, I am not too fond of these but I do appreciate that they are not placed with the eyeshadows, which would have led to a lot of dark fallouts. There are a mix of colors, some shimmery, some not. Pigmentation varies but there are a few really lovely ones (see the hot pink I swatched below).
Swatches of a three shadows, the darker blush, and a hot pink, non-shimmery lip gloss from the palette. |
In terms of value, this palette is a hit. For $25, you get a ton of shadows, quality blushes and bronzers, and a whole bunch of glosses to try out. Quality-wise the blush and bronzers were amazing, the shadows varied with the mattes being a bit patchy. So all in all, this is a decent palette, perfect for younger girls just getting into makeup or those who don't have a lot of products in their collection and just want a whole lot of colors to play with.
