The book is divided into four chapters, all of which are filled with beautiful colored images. In chapter one and two, author Allison Rose Spiekermann explains the purpose and variety of the different components of a nail polish. She provides lists of recommended equipments, so for beginners who really don't know how to start, it's a good guide to refer to.
It's important to note, however, that the book doesn't give "recipes" and instructions on how to make nail polish from scratch (which are apparently top secrets of the polish industry). So the majority of the recipes she provides in the book depends on pre-existing polishes on the market.
The book gives recipes for polishes made with eye shadow, by combining store-bought nail polishes, adding glitters, and creating jellies. All the recipes come with high-quality images of the finished polishes swatched on the nails.
There is also a bonus section that provides inspirations for nail art ideas.
Overall, I think this is a great book for those that are seriously interested in making their own nail polish. The book not only provides a good number of recipes to help you get started, it also gives a list of resources of where you can find the common ingredients needed to make your own polish. The only criticism I can think of is that the book contains a lot of information that can be easily found on the internet, for free. With that said though, I think the book does a wonderful job of compiling all those info into an organized format so it's really the only resource you need when starting your own homemade polish collection!
