I am a long time sufferer of acne, ever since grade six or seven, I have experienced pretty much all the curveballs of acne-prone skin. So not surprisingly, I have tried just about everything, but as you know, most acne treatments tend to dry out the skin because of the salicylic acid they contain. So I was quite intrigued by Kiehl's Blue Herbal Moisturizer Salicylic Acid Acne Treatment my mom picked up for me, because it promises to moisturize, despite of it containing salicylic acid. As always, I'll just cut down to the chase. I like this product, it is not drying, but it isn't that great at combatting acne. The salicylic acid only makes up 0.5% of the product, so it is fairly mild. For those with severe acne, this ain't gonna do the trick. However, I wear this on the days when I am not experiencing a full-blown acne fest on my face, as a light moisturizer before bed and it works wonderfully.
The texture of this moisturizer is very nice, it has a very matte finish. However, I would not wear this under my makeup, because as most people who have used acne treatment knows, instead of being absorbed into the skin like a normal moisturizers, moisturizing acne treatment sits on top of the skin and forms a thin veil that will flake off when you rub hard, and this one is no different.
One last issue I have to mention is that whenever I apply this over my face, there are a few tiny crystal pieces left on my face. By tiny crystals I mean components of the moisturizer that seem to have crystallized (they aren't hard or sharp, but just sort of annoying). I have noticed this occurrence before with one bottle of my proactive refining mask, but I am unsure which ingredient it is that crystallized. Nevertheless, it is not really an issue for me because I wear this before bed.
I hope that was helpful for y'all looking for a moisturizing acne treatment. If you are interested in this, you can probably pop by your local Kiehl's and ask for a sample! It is also available online. Also let me know if you have found a good treatment for medium to severe acnes, because I am still on the lookout for better products!
